My path to development...

To fully understand my story, you need a little background. I am a pianist and a music teacher. Together those two things have meant sporadic employment and multiple year end conversations about budget and programming cuts.

I started dabbling with coding in March 2018 with freeCodeCamp and again during the 2019 spring/summer, when I discovered Coursera.org. I enrolled in a variety of courses learning HTML, CSS, Python, PHP, SQL, and JavaScript. . While the “work at your own pace” was great, and I was gobbling up enormous amounts of content, I wasn’t getting any personalized feedback. I also realized that as much as I was learning, it was mostly theory independent from practical application to website building. Sure I can write a function, but how can I make it work with my HTML output?

At this point, I had no way to build a tech network and I was (am?) very intimidated about the prospect of a technical interview. These were essential pieces of the puzzle if I’m serious about making this a new career. All these factors and another pink slip from yet another school have pushed me to finally take the plunge into a full immersion, software engineering boot camp through General Assembly.

As of November 2019, I am a GA graduate on a quest for a web development position.
